Just got back from a fast trip up to Portland/Vancouver. Melissa and Eric flew up on Friday night while David and I drove the Bug up there from Reno. It took us about 10 hours but all in all it was an uneventful drive. We saw that Mount Shasta has snow on it again. Not sure if it always does or not but it was a bit chilly up in that region.

I am so glad that we did much research prior to going up there. We scoured the internet for houses that met the criteria that we wanted. We got that initial list of around 25 down to 12. Sent that list off to the realtor and he had it all mapped out and ready to go. We hooked up with the realtor on Saturday morning and together we saw about 12 houses that day. That night we had to cut the list down and make a choice as to which one we wanted to put an offer on. That was the hardest part of this entire thing. Which one…

We settled on a nice house that sits on the same block as the high school that David will be attending. The Elementary and Middle schools that Eric will attend are only some 2-3 blocks away as well. It is an nice 3 bedroom home with all the bedrooms upstairs. Nice Master Bedroom too. Wood fireplace in the living room and also has a sizable family room off the kitchen. What is really nice for me is that attached to the back of the 2 car 20′ x 20′ garage is a nice workshop. Also there is a 13′ x 11′ office for me to set up my working area. Oh yeah!

Well this is all contingent on them accepting the offer we put in. Not sure how that will go but I will update. Here is a picture of the possible new home.

New House

It has been a little while since I have updated the news from here. This is because nothing was in concrete yet and I wanted to wait until the outlook was clear before talking about it all.

The latest is that my wife has accepted a PM position at a mall in Portland. Yes, this means we are moving to the wonderful state of Oregon. She is to take this position within the next few weeks. Now as far as I am concerned: I will be staying here in Reno. I talked to the owners of the mall here and they want me to stay on, for more money, to take over running the mall until it closes. The mall is scheduled to shut down for demolition on January 31st 2007. This means I will be here likey through Feb or more. I will have to find an apartment here and will travel to Portland every few weeks to see the family.

David is excited about the move. He has found some friends in an online game that he plays. They live in Portland and are his age. They are looking forward to meeting him. Eric is happy go lucky Eric and is not bothered by the move. My wife is excited about the move although Portland was not her first choice. Nor mine but at least this is something perminant and having a family to support we needed a good long term deal. She will be making considerably more money up there and the cost of living is cheaper. Hey, maybe we can actually afford a decent home!! one can only hope.

So, give us a few months to get settled in and then if you want to come explore the beautiful Columbia River Gorge— come on up!! Just be sure to call first so we can clean the house. How about early summer 2007? Sounds good to me!
